Taking up running is the cheapest fitness activity and can help with weight loss and cardiovascular health.
The NHS choices C25K plan is designed to get just about anyone off the couch and running 5km in nine weeks. There is a written program and free downloadable podcast you can put on your MP3 player to help you get started.
You can download for free the whole 9 week program, and see the small but steady improvement each week as you progress. Remember you need to do each part three times each week to get the best from it.
